Friday was
our last day in Vegas. But it was definitely a FULL day. Our
flight didn't leave until 11:30pm. We got up and took the shuttle
to the Rio then we walked over to the Palms. Which was another
place I wanted to check out because they film the TV show
"Inked" at the tattoo shop there. My plan was to get a
tattoo of some cherries on my lower back. So we tried to get there
just after it opened at 11am. The shop is called "Hart &
Huntington" and I can't believe how small it was. On TV it
looks so big. I did see one guy I recognized from the show - he
got married in an episode last year. Anyway, there was already a
line up people waiting to get inside but it seemed that most of them
were just wanting to buy T-shirts - so we waited. When I finally
got inside the 2 girls at the counter were totally useless. They
really need to work on their customer service skills. The one told
me to look through the books even though I knew what I wanted - grrrrr.
So I wasted time searching through all these books and there was NO
cherries in them at all! So I go back to the counter and speak to
the other girl, explaining again what I want and asking for a
quote. She tells me between $350-$450 and a 3 hour wait.
They don't take appointments it is first come first serve.
Needless to say the price and wait was totally unacceptable so we
left. I could get that tattoo around here for a fraction of what
they wanted.
So I was a little bummed out not getting my "Vegas" tattoo. I had forgone the pool and everything that day. On the other hand I was feeling a little hungover so it was probably a good thing :) We took a cab back to Caesars and had one last walk on the strip. We passed O'Sheas where they have some poor midget dressed up as a leprechaun giving out free shots at the bar. Then we went into the Flamingo and tried the Wheel of Fortune penny slots. They were fun - it had a chair for 2 people to sit - if you hit the bonus then the big wheel spins. It didn't spin for us though. I saw ELVIS standing outside Imperial Palace so we darted over so I could get my free photo with him. The background is just a drop cloth they have set up outside. It was like 100 degrees and there he was in the full suit that must have been hot. We ended up going to the Cheesecake Factory in the Forum Shops for a late lunch/early dinner. Highly, highly recommend the food there. Especially the desert. We split a piece of Godiva Chocoate Cheesecake - it was to die for! Then we went back to the room for a brief nap. I am so glad we decided to pay for a room on this last day. It would have been awful to have to check out in the morning and have no where to call home for the day. I had lined up one last show for us. We had preview tickets to the new Beatles Cirque show at the Mirage. In fact, we were going to opening night....the very first time an audience had seen the show. The show was at 7:00pm so as long as everything was on time we'd be able to grab our luggage when it was over and head to the airport with no problem. The staff was all dressed up in British police uniforms. Very cool. Our seats were good - if you get them anywhere in the 200s you'll be fine. They even had speakers in the head rests on your seats. It didn't get going until 7:30pm so I was a little anxious about the timing but I totally got into the show. The 2 creators of the show even came out on stage and thanked us for being a part of Beatles history by being the first people to see the show. It started with the "Get Back JoJo" song and it was just incredible. I can't rave about it enough. We are not Cirque fans and have never been to any of the other shows but I found this one to be kind of just dancing to the songs - there was some aerial work, trampolines and even roller bladders. Since it was a preview period there was a brief part where they had to stop it for about 40 seconds so the stage could fully come up. They restarted that particular number. It didn't make any difference to me. We had gotten 25% off on the tickets because there could be hiccups like this. When it finished there was a bit of panic on my part about making it to the airport. We rushed back to Caesars and grabbed our luggage - thankfully we had already packed. When I saw the line-up for taxis again got a little worried. But we made it about 45 minutes before boarding :) Luckily it wasn't even a full flight and we even had an empty seat between us. We grabbed some mini-pizzas at the airport and then it was time to go home. We arrived in Toronto at 7:00am. I did not enjoy the overnight flight. I just can't sleep sitting up on a plane. But it was definitely worth it because it was an awesome trip and I can't wait to go back again. |

So there you
have it - another trip to Vegas under our belts. What I liked
about this trip is we didn't even go to the end of the strip we stayed
at last time. We visited Casinos we had never seen (Mirage,
Treasure Island, Wynn, Rio, Palms, Bellagio, Barbabry Coast, Aladdin,
Paris, etc). I would definitely recommend staying center strip you
don't end up using a cab very much.
Again, we didn't win any big money but just enough to keep it fun and keep you playing. I love the slot machines they have here. My favourite was the Apprentice - during the bonus Donald Trump comes on the screen and asks you to fire people from the various seasons of the show - how fun! I didn't have any problems getting drinks at the pennies either. We are thinking the next trip we'd like to get a group together to go. |
