The CBS Mini-series which was based on Joyce Carol Oates' controversial best-selling book, Blonde: A Novel, has introduced Marilyn to a new generation of fans. It is amazing the number of new fans that joined online fan clubs simply because they saw Blonde on TV. However, many of these same fans do not realize that the book and subsequent miniseries, invented portions of Marilyn's life. In fact, if you missed the first minute of the televised event you would not have seen the disclaimer that it was fictional. It made Marilyn look really sleazy (especially the dreaded threesome scene which I might add was totally made up). I suggest that if this movie is the only thing you have seen about Marilyn, please pick up a reputable documentary or book. |
